MP series low inertia brushless servo motor with 75 mm or smaller frame size 7 Rockwell Automation publication MP-IN006D-EN-P-2015 January, all equipment was grounded by using a single point parallel grounding system with grounding bus or large bus. If necessary, use additional electrical noise reduction techniques to reduce EMI in noisy environments. For more information on reducing EMI impacts by improving system level electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), refer to the Electrical Noise Control System Design Reference Manual, publication GMC-RM001. Building and installing cables Correct cable routing and careful cable construction can improve the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of the system. Make and install the cable according to the following guidelines: Keep the wire length as short as possible. Keep noise sensitive wiring (encoder, serial, and I/O) away from input power and motor power wiring. For parallel runs every 9 meters (30 feet), separate the cables at least 0.3 meters (1 foot) apart. Ground both ends of the encoder cable shield and twist the signal pair to prevent EMI from other equipment. Shield the power cord Follow the steps below to shield the power cord. 1. As shown in the figure, verify whether the separate signal wire shield is connected to the whole chassis grounding by looping back each signal wire pair. 2. Clamp all three shields at the ground connection of the power cord (chassis) on the drive together. Note: If the shield is not grounded, there may be high voltage on the shield of the power cable. Verify that all power cable shields are grounded. Note: The leakage current generated by MP series motors in the protective grounding conductor exceeds 3.5 mA AC and/or 10 mA DC.
Make sure that the motor cable is properly grounded according to the driver installation instructions. Note: If the shield is not grounded, there may be high voltage on the shield of the power cable. Verify that all shields in the power cable are grounded. 8 MP series low inertia brushless servo motor with 75 mm or smaller frame size Rockwell Automation Publication MP-IN006D-EN-P-2015 January DC power supply of power cable shield brake control and power regulation permanent magnet brake, such as MP series service motor with 75 mm (2.95 in.) or smaller frame, requires low ripple voltage DC power supply. The motor brake requires relay contacts to open and disconnect power to the brake coil. De energizing causes the brakes to engage mechanically, but also causes arcing at the contacts until the residual braking power is sufficiently dissipated. Customer supplied diodes are recommended to prevent arcing at the brake relay contacts. Replacing diodes with metal oxide varistors (MOVs) can reduce the time for mechanical brake engagement. The following figure shows the typical components provided by the customer for braking control, including arc suppression diode or MOV. Arc suppression in motor brake circuits Rockwell Automation's Kinetix 6000 driver has a brake control relay that includes a MOV arc suppressor. In this case, the arc suppression provided by the customer is not required, unless the power consumption of the brake requires an external brake relay.
