Before starting, remove all packaging materials inside and around the item. After unpacking, verify the nameplate catalog number according to the purchase order. 1. Carefully remove the motor from the shipping container. 2. Visually check the motor for damage. 3. Check the motor frame, front output shaft and mounting guide for any defects. 4. Notify the carrier immediately of any transport damage. Keep the original packaging materials in case you need to return the product for repair or transport to another location. Use inner and outer packing boxes to provide adequate protection for the returned devices. Store or operate the motor in a clean and dry place under the environmental conditions listed in "Specifications" on page 20. Remove the shaft cover Remove the protective cover installed on the motor shaft by hand or pry off the cover with a screwdriver. Do not use hammers or other tools as they will damage the motor shaft. Note: To avoid personal injury and motor damage, do not lift or handle the motor through the motor shaft. The cover on the shaft may be loose, causing the motor to fall. NOTE: Do not attempt to open or modify the motor. This manual describes the modifications that can be made on site. Do not perform modifications not described in this manual. Only authorized Allen Bradley service centers can repair this item. Consult Rockwell Automation Technical Support for assistance in locating the nearest service center.

Follow these guidelines to maximize the service life of the servo motor in your environment: always provide a drip ring in each cable to take the liquid away from the motor connection. If possible, provide protective covers to protect the motor housing, shaft seals and their connections from foreign matter or liquid contamination. The shaft seal is easy to wear and needs regular inspection and replacement. According to the service conditions, it is recommended to replace it every 3 months, but not more than 12 months. For more information, refer to the shaft seal kit on page 19. Regularly check the motor and seals for damage or wear. If damage or excessive wear is found, replace the component. The brake option on this servomotor is a spring set to hold the brake, which releases when voltage is applied to the brake coil. Separate power is required to disengage the brake. The power supply can be applied through servo motor controller or manual operator control. If the main power supply of the system fails, the holding brake can withstand occasional use as a parking brake. However, this can cause the rotating machinery to recoil, which can damage the system, increase brake wear, and shorten brake life. Important: The fixed brake is not designed to stop the rotation of the motor shaft, nor is it used as a safety device.
