Both bus terminals must be powered at all times to ensure trouble free operation, so it is strongly recommended that they be connected to a backup power source. MODBUS protocol MODBUS is an open standard, which is owned and managed by an independent equipment manufacturer group named MODBUS organization (www.MODBUS. org). Using MODBUS protocol, devices from different manufacturers exchange information on the same communication bus without special interface devices. The WaterMaster FEX100-MB follows the specification of Modbus Over Serial Line V1.02 and uses the 2-wire TIA/EIA-485 (RS485) physical layer.
